Graham's Baptism

A couple of weeks ago, we had Graham's baptism at our church. Of course, it was an event! Graham's grandmother and his God-mother bought him his baptism outfit earlier in the week, which of course looked adorable on him. On the day of the event, we got him dressed in the morning and did a photo shoot. He was apparantly not in the mood to have his picture taken at all, and we only got a few decent pictures. The ones that we got however, were really cute.

We all met at Graham's grandfater's house around 2:00. His grandfather convienently lives right down the street from our church. With us, we brought my brother's rosary with us that he got from Rome earlier in the year for Graham. Before giving it to us, he had it blessed by both Pope Benedict as well as Pope John Paul II. I know - Pope John Paul II is dead, but in the Catholic faith we believe that by touching an object to the tomb of a saint or religious person that it is blessed by that person, except that it is now considered a type of relic. Gordon was able to take the "Scavi" tour of the catacombs under St. Peter's Basillica, and there had a Swiss Guard take the rosary and touch it to the tomb of John Paul II.

The reason I mention this, is because Gordon is in boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. In his absense, I carried the rosary in honor of him. We missed having him there.

The ceremony itself was very special... if you ignore the loud family who was also having a baby baptised. We celebrated mass before the baptism ceremony and the mentioned family talked throughout church rather loudly. When the baptism ceremony started, they continued to talk, and were rather disrespectful overall - to the point that the priest had difficulty talking over them. Other than them, it was very special.

As for Graham - he slept through the whole thing. He briefly woke up when he sat in the fountain and had water poured on his head, but then after we cleaned him up and changed his diaper, he fell right back to sleep. He can be such a peaceful baby sometimes.

After the ceremony, we went back to his grandfathers house for some finger food and wine (Graham did not partake) and then went home. It was quite a busy day for the little man and of course, he was fussy that night until he finally went to bed.
